Inspired by FunWorld magazine’s recent cool article about the impact of women in attractions management, we chatted to our own #Attractions project team “Wonder Woman” Alichia Nortje about her impact and pearls of wisdom for young women in the industry.

Meet our #Attractions18 Wonder Woman Alichia Nortje!

Alichia is the Guest Experience Manager for the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town. Over the past 13 years, Alichia has been at the forefront of some of the Aquarium’s most inspiring projects, including the temporary exhibit “Frogs Beyond the Pond” in 2008, the International Aquarium Congress in 2012 and the upcoming Kelp Forest exhibition.

With six years in management and her recent shift to the guest experience department of the Aquarium, her advice to the new generation of female attractions leaders is:

“Get out of the office! Walk, stalk, observe and listen to what happens in your business.

Try to work in as many departments as possible until you find your niche and spend time everywhere to understand and appreciate the nuts and bolts of your attraction. It will give you endless insight into what works and what doesn’t and how your visitors might respond.”
