South African Tourism is the national tourism agency responsible for marketing South Africa as a leisure and business events destination internationally and domestically. Our vision is to position South Africa as an exceptional tourist and business events destination that offers a value-for-money, quality visitor experience that is diverse and unique. South African Tourism derives its mandate from Chapter 3 of the Tourism Act. The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa operates as a business unit of South African Tourism and is the only recognised and globally credible quality assurance body for tourism products in South Africa.

Tourism has an important role to play in placing the South African economy on a sustainable inclusive growth trajectory. Described as the New Gold, it is a sector that is thriving and has tremendous potential for further growth and for the creation of much needed jobs. The National Development Plan recognises tourism as one of the main drivers of employments and economic growth and envisages the promotion of South Africa as a major tourist and business events destination.
